The sights and sounds invoked by the voices, images, and stories of Breaking Ground bring the past to life. These voices are the voices of the founders, the brothers and sisters who paved the way for what has become the largest and strongest local in the history of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).

Many people have contributed to this website and history project along the way, and it would be impossible to acknowledge everyone. So I would like to give a big thank you to the members who have contributed to this project with their photos, their interviews, and their comments. This project is an ongoing project and we are always collecting memorabilia, historical photos and will begin interviewing members and former staff as well as we continue to archive history here at local 3.

Thank you all for your years of service, loyalty, and solidarity to the labor movement and to Local 3:
