"It is important to pause and take a look at where we came from, and where we are going. History allows us to look in
the mirror, to take our pulse and, in doing so, shed light on our present and investigate our vision of where we can go
in the future as an organization."
Listen to a selection of oral interviews and watch some archival video that helped shape this great union.
The sights and sounds invoked by the voices, images, and stories of Breaking Ground bring the past to life. These voices are the voices of the founders, the brothers and sisters who paved the way for what has become the largest and strongest local in the history of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). The new sound we hear is the sound of equipment running, the sound of our voices working together, the sound of hope, the sound of a nation going back to work to build, defend, and fight for the rights of the working class.
